When Worlds Overlap, Belief Lights the Way
On the world of Rieze Maxia, humans, monsters, and spirits coexist. Humans are able to produce mana from internal organs known as mana lobes, and cast spirit artes by channeling that mana to spirits. Though the world is composed of two opposing nations, Rashugal and Auj Oule, it has long been at peace.One day, a medical student named Jude meets a woman named Milla claiming to be Maxwell, the Lord of Spirits, in a military research installation. There, they discover a weapon called the Lance of Kresnik, which consumes vast quantities of mana.
The weapon was built using spyrix technology, which consumes the lives of spirits to cast magic. As they have seen the secret weapon, a warrant is put out for their arrest. While fleeing the installation, the pair are saved by a self-styled mercenary named Alvin.
Thus begins their adventure to uncover the secrets of their world, joined by Jude's childhood friend Leia, a persecuted girl named Elize, and the butler of a noble family, Rowen.
Jude Mathis
Jude is a medical student attending Fennmont's Talim Medical School. Serious and sincere, he inspires trust in those around him. His desire to help others leads to his joining Milla's quest, but it's his attraction to her pure nature that leads him to fight for her.
Milla Maxwell
As the Lord of Spirits, Milla Maxwell commands the Great Spirits of earth, water, fire, and wind. She sees protecting mankind and spirits alike as her mission, and will do whatever is necessary to achieve it.
Alvin
A mercenary with a nonchalant air, Alvin rescues Milla and Jude from law enforcement in hopes of a payday. But his shady behavior suggests that he's using his glib and easygoing manner to conceal some dark secrets.
Leia Rolando
Leia was a childhood friend of Jude and has long held feelings for him. Wishing to support him, she insists on joining the party. She's relentless in the pursuit of her goals, but her rashness often leads her to make foolish mistakes.
Elize Lutus
Elize is a young girl who was used as a test subject for a mana-amplifying booster. She travels everywhere with a floating, talking stuffed animal named Teepo. After being rescued by Jude's party, she ends up joining their quest.
Rowen Ilbert
Rowen formerly served as a Rashugal military strategist, where his unflappable temperament and exceptional leadership earned him the nickname, "The Conductor." He asks to join Milla's party in order to stop the reckless actions of his former friend, Nachtigal.
Gaius
The king of Auj Oule, Gaius won the trust of his people through his intense charisma. He firmly believes that it is the duty of the strong to guide the weak, and will not ignore the powerless, even if they are not among his subjects.
Muzét
A Great Spirit who works with Gaius at times, Muzét was created from a portion of the schism. While normally gentle and calm, she is capable of great ruthlessness and cruelty when doing the bidding of her creator, Maxwell.
Teepo
A strange stuffed animal kept by Elize, Teepo is capable of speech and can stretch and expand his body at will. Elize has had Teepo since early childhood, and the bond they share is extremely strong.
