At a loss, the world's sister goddesses appoint Julio and Caro-the two humans with the purest hearts-to find the source of the World Tree's corruption, and grant them the power to transform via costumes.
Julio is an apprentice blacksmith. Academics and philosophy are not his strong suits, but he loves making things with his hands. Sometimes he skips work to goof around in the mountains. Even so, he hopes to gain financial independence as soon as possible, in order to reduce the burden on the orphanage.
Julio's love of pranks and tendency to act before thinking often get him in trouble. He has no interest in romance and only thinks of Caro as a friend.
Caro spends her days helping out at the orphanage while she eagerly awaits her Ceremony of Adulthood . Her dream is to design and make clothes. She is a serious, responsible person and often loses her temper with her mischievous friend Julio. However, she sometimes envies his impulsive nature, because she tends to agonize over her decisions.
As she comes to feel more like an adult, Julio's teasing about her looks has begun to get under her skin, but self-consciousness keeps her from making too big of a fuss over it.
